This comprehensive 16-hour course is designed for association representatives who support and advocate for members involved in Internal Affairs (IA) investigations. Participants will gain practical knowledge and skills to effectively represent members while ensuring investigations are conducted fairly, legally, and professionally.
Course Topics Include:
- Understanding the role and function of Internal Affairs within law enforcement agencies
- Rights and responsibilities of officers during IA investigations
- Navigating the California Peace Officers Bill of Rights (POBR)
- California Senate Bill 2 (SB2) and its impact on investigations
- Legal issues, case law, and procedural requirements
- Ethical considerations and best practices for representing members
- Effective communication and advocacy strategies during interviews and hearings
Through interactive discussions, case studies, and scenario-based exercises, participants will learn how to protect members’ rights, ensure procedural fairness, and support officers throughout the IA process.
By the end of the course, association representatives will have the knowledge and tools to confidently advocate for members, navigate IA investigations, and uphold professional and legal standards.
