The Position
The Police Support Services Manager reports to the Police Captain assigned to the support services division and is responsible for the records, property and evidence, and dispatch subdivisions in addition to budgetary planning and contract administration for relevant technical and surveillance vendors. This position is a working manager role and requires flexibility to perform hands on tasks in each of the subdivisions as needed. The Police Support Services Manager position is exempt and requires flexibility in scheduling which may include working nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary in addition to call backs under extenuating circumstances.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced innovative leader and team player with dynamic customer service skills and a commitment to serving the community. This position will provide highly responsible administrative leadership to the records, property and evidence, and dispatch subdivisions of support services and should have a complex understanding of the principles and practices for both emergency communications and records management. Successful candidates will be effective communicators with strong ethical standards and the ability to maintain the high level of confidentiality required of this position.
Minimum Requirements
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience
- At least six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in police dispatch or records retention.
Education/Training:
- An Associate’s degree or a minimum of 60 college semester units from an accredited college supplemented by specialized training in police dispatch, records retention or a related field.
Required Licenses and Certificates:
- Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
- Ability to obtain an appropriate, valid CLETS/NCIC training certificate within six (6) months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education/Training:
- An Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, Police Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field.
Licenses:
- Possession of a valid CLETS/NCIC training certificate.
- Possession of a valid Records Supervisor certificate.
- Possession of a valid Basic P.O.S.T. Dispatch certificate.
- Possession of a valid Property and Evidence Management certificate.
Examination & Selection Process:
Application Review Phase:
A completed City of Coronado employment application and resume must be received by the Human Resources Division by 11:59 PM PST on February 14, 2025. Copies of licenses and/or certificates must be attached to the application. Applications will be reviewed on the basis of relevant education, training, and experience.
Examination Phase:
Application who meets minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an oral panel interview (pass/fail).
Department Interviews:
Top candidates will be selected based on feedback from the panel for final interviews with the Chief of Police.
Candidate Selection Process:
Top candidates will be required to submit a Personal History Statement (PHS) and other required forms for review. Select candidates will be subject to successful completion of a polygraph examination and a thorough law enforcement background check conducted by a licensed background investigator prior to the final interview.
Final Interview:
The selected candidate will be invited to a final interview with the Chief of Police and if successful, will be issued a conditional offer subject to the successful completion of a psychological examination and a medical exam, including a drug screen.
Additional Information:
All candidates who successfully obtain a 70% or above in each phase of the exam process will be placed on an eligibility list for a period of at least six months.
