Retirement System: OCERS
The Orange County District Attorney-Public Administrator’s Office is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Supervising Deputy Public Administrator. Ideal candidates will have supervisory or leadership experience as well as experience conducting investigations and residential searches. In Orange County, the elected District Attorney also serves as the elected Public Administrator (PA). However, it is important to clarify that the Public Administrator role is not a law enforcement position, and PA employees are not sworn peace officers.
The PA is responsible for administering the estates of Orange County residents who die leaving no one willing or able to act on their behalf. Deputy Public Administrators are responsible for conducting investigations to determine whether the decedent has any next of kin, whether the decedent left testamentary documents, and whether the decedent has sufficient assets to warrant PA involvement.
The Supervising Deputy Public Administrator is responsible for conducting PA investigations as well as supervising subordinate staff engaged in the investigation and administration of estates. During PA investigations, staff conduct searches of decedent property to secure valuables and firearms, look for testamentary documents, and will secure and seal the property. Although this is not a law enforcement position, a person with previous police experience may be an excellent candidate given the nature of the investigations and searches conducted by PA deputies.
