ASSIGNMENT
The Barstow Community College District is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join its Administration of Justice team. The Administration of Justice program falls under the Public Service and Education Pathway and includes classes in criminal law, principles and procedures, evidence, and community relations.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
- Teach lecture/laboratory classes as assigned.
- Participate in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs.
- Extensive knowledge in the field applicable to current industry standards is required as well as participation on advisory boards. Maintain currency in subject areas and pedagogy.
- Collaborate with other faculty to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
- Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours. Use computer and multimedia technology.
- Serve as a member on District-wide committees. Participate in departmental matters, college, pathway, and discipline-specific professional activities.
- Maintain expert knowledge of and proactively monitor legislative changes, social dynamics, and laws impacting justice system operations, sentencing, and how diverse populations interact with and are affected by the justice system.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, standing for extended periods of time, reaching overhead and above shoulders, walking, bending, hearing and speaking to exchange information, and seeing to observe students at work
Minimum Qualifications
– Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience, OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
– Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college students.
– Professional experience related to Police Science, Corrections, or Law Enforcement
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience as a first line law enforcement officer at the local, state, or federal level.
- Instructional experience at a California POST certified police academy as an instructor, or in criminal justice or administration of justice academics at the community college level, or higher.
- Knowledge and experience in concepts such as Modern Policing, Restorative Justice, and Community Engagement
- Active involvement in career-related professional development organizations, and evidence of continued professional development in the field of criminal justice.
- Ability to work with local criminal justice organizations to provide additional learning experiences to students in support of our established learning goals.
Benefits
The District provides an excellent health and welfare package which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance and income protection. Current employer contribution not to exceed $20,500 per year. Enrollment in the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) is required. The position is within the BCFA/CTA Bargaining Unit and may be subject to Association dues.
