Police Commander

Salary Range:
$106,476 - $135,924 Annually
$8,873 - $11,327 Monthly

The Police Commander, under direction of the Chief of Police, serves as the administrator of one or more divisions of the Police Department. Plans, organizes, and deploys all assigned divisions and personnel. Assigns, directs, and supervises both sworn and non-sworn supervisors and line personnel in accomplishment of their tasks. Assigns or conducts internal investigations. Receives complaints. Updates or writes new policies. Provides technical assistance, undertakes special staff assignments, and may be required to serve as Acting Chief of Police.

Approved 3% Wage Increase for FY 24/25

  • POST Incentive Pay – Maximum of 6.5%
  • Education Incentive Pay – Maximum of 5%
  • 100% Employer paid medical, dental, and vision benefits for employees.

Chief of Police

Annual Salary Range: $153,924 - $187,092

The City of Delano is seeking a driven and motivated, high-energy Chief of Police who is approachable, outgoing, and comfortable interacting with all members of the City staff, City Council, and community on a regular basis. The Chief of Police will also foster cooperation working relationships with the general public, citizen groups, and other agencies on police matters.

The ideal candidate will take a proactive stance towards problem-solving and be someone with excellent diplomacy, presentation, and relationship-building skills who is politically astute. The candidate will have seven to nine years of progressively responsible command experience in municipal law enforcement administration. Five to seven years of experience in both supervision and management. The City of Delano offers an excellent benefit package.

  • POST Executive Pay – 2.5%
  • 100% Employer paid medical, dental, and vision benefits for employees and their dependents
  • Technology Pay – $100/month
  • Uniform Allowance – $90/month

The Police Officer position classification is under the direction of a Sergeant, while serving the City and community at large by performing a variety of peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property and enforcement of laws and ordinances of the City and State government. Provide assistance and protection to residents through the execution of a program of community policing that includes education and crime prevention, investigation, and suppression activities. Prepare cases and provide testimony in court proceedings on behalf of the community.
