2025 California Memorial Ceremony
Law enforcement members, survivors, supporters and families gathered at the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Monument in Sacramento on May 4 and 5 to honor those who gave their lives in the line of duty. The annual California Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremonies paid tribute to three officers who died in 2024:
- Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Alfredo Flores (EOW 4/20/24)
- Vacaville Police Officer Matthew Bowen (EOW 7/11/24)
- San Diego Police Officer Austin Machitar (EOW 8/26/24)
In addition, two officers who died in prior years were formally added to the Memorial Monument:
- Manhattan Beach Police Officer Chad E. Swanson (EOW 10/4/23)
- El Monte Police Officer Terry D. Long (EOW 8/22/04)
They join the more than 1,670 peace officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice since California’s founding, their names forever etched into the monument as a testament to their service and bravery.
Though the ceremonies were deeply emotional, they provided an essential moment of remembrance, giving grieving families the opportunity to see their loved ones publicly honored and recognized. PORAC extends its deepest gratitude to these heroes and sympathy to their survivors, reaffirming our unwavering promise: We will never forget.
