Internal Affairs Class – South Lake Tahoe

Two-day class – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This California POST-certified course provides an overview of the role that internal affairs play in a law enforcement agency. Emphasis is on legal issues, case law, rights and responsibilities, California Peace Officers Bill of Rights, critical incidents, conduct unbecoming an officer, and a variety of other legal considerations.

Basic Collective Bargaining – Sacramento

Three-day class – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An introductory course to collective bargaining, providing the participant with an overview of the collective bargaining process. This course will include legal analysis of laws related to collective bargaining including Meyers-Milias-Brown, analysis of positional and hard/soft bargaining as compared to interest-based bargaining, how to prepare for negotiations, basic contract costing, and defining what is good faith bargaining. Hands-on bargaining exercises, including contract costing, will help to prepare the participant for negotiations. This course is intensive and demanding. Participants should be prepared to put in additional hours to those identified below.

A One-Day Classroom Experience

Through a variety of video-based scenarios, we will review POST’s 10 Psychological Job Dimensions. These are the exceptional traits that you demonstrated when you were hired. Then, we will explore the “most effective” police performance.  Finally, we will discuss the internal and external obstacles that confront you and compromise your ability to maintain optimal performance and provide you with a variety of resilience-building tools.

Training activities include simulations, discussion, small group activities, virtual resources, and in-classroom instruction.
