Deputy Chief Of Police

Salary Range: $161,945 – $212,412

The Port of Los Angeles is the nation’s largest container port located 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles in the San Pedro Bay. Port facilities and infrastructure function within an operational area encompassing 7500 acres and 43 miles of waterfront. The Los Angeles Port Police employ 229 public safety staff, of which 140 are sworn 830.1 peace officers.

In support of their mission, the Los Angeles Port Police patrol the Port of Los Angeles by land, sea, air and underwater. With a proposed budget of approximately $35 million dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure port environment, Port Police operations enforce federal, state and local public safety statutes in addition to environmental and safety regulations within the Port’s jurisdiction.

The Operations Group consists of Marine and Patrol Operations and Support Services Divisions that provide landside and marine patrol, K-9 services, Dive Unit operations, specialized two-wheel motorcycle traffic enforcement, hazmat investigations and criminal investigative functions. The Los Angeles Port Police are also responsible for oversight of Emergency Management in support of the mission of the Los Angeles Harbor Department, in collaboration with the Emergency Management Department of the City of Los Angeles.

The annual salary range for the position is: $161,945 – $212,412, with a competitive Executive Benefit package. Candidates must demonstrate a successful law enforcement management career that includes at least two years of experience at the level of Police Captain or at a level equivalent to police commanding officer or higher, managing the patrol, traffic, safety, investigation, intelligence and security activities or operations of a respected law enforcement agency. It is preferred that candidates also demonstrate integrated emergency management responsibilities and functions in their career path.
