The City of Laguna Beach, CA seeks an enthusiastic, team oriented individuals to join our Police Department!
We are currently offering a one-time signing bonus of up to $15,000 to all new Lateral Police Officers hired August 3, 2022 through December 31, 2022. Lateral Police Officers are eligible to receive $7,500 in the first full pay period following their start date and the remaining $7,500 upon completion of 24 months of employment.
The Police Department is organized into three divisions (Support and Investigative Services, Field Services, and Professional Services), and provides general law enforcement services, including animal control. The department augments its services with the assistance of reserve officers, community volunteers representing our various volunteer groups such as COPs, CERT, and the Animal Shelter, police explorers, and Police Cadet and Beach Patrol positions during the summer months.
Under general supervision of a Police Corporal, Sergeant, or Watch Commander, you’ll perform in an assigned area of responsibility, responds to calls, observes violations, and enforces public safety and traffic laws, regulations and ordinances; performs crime prevention and investigation work to protect life and property; discusses problems, complaints and violations with citizens, residents and visitors; testifies in court hearings; assists other officers and performs special detail work as needed; and does other work as assigned. Solves community related problems and prepares comprehensive written and dictated reports. All Academy Graduates spend their initial probationary year in field training.
Minimum Qualifications:
LATERAL:
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by completion of the police academy.
Experience: Must be a current sworn peace officer in the State of California including the completion of a probationary period with acceptable performance.
License Requirements: The incumbent must obtain a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver’s license and provide evidence of an acceptable driving record. May be required to obtain a Class 4 or Class D license following hire, depending upon position assignment as a Motor Officer.
ACADEMY GRADUATE:
Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent, supplemented by completion of the police academy. You MUST ensure that you have attached proof of completion to your application.
Experience: Some experience, on-the-job training and college course work in police science, preferably involving public contact work and the enforcement of public safety rules and policies.
License Requirements: Must obtain a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver’s license and provide evidence of an acceptable driving record; may be required to obtain a Class 4 or Class D license following hire, depending upon position assignment as a Motor Officer.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully complete a thorough background security investigation, polygraph examination, psychological screening, and pre-employment physical examination including a drug test.
