The Providing Child Care for Police Officers Act:
Aims to address the nationwide police staffing shortage by making it easier for parents to enter the field.
“Police departments across the Valley have struggled to recruit and retain new officers, resulting in immense pressure on our existing police force and putting the safety of our communities at risk. The Providing Child Care for Police Officers Act will make childcare more accessible and affordable for our officers who typically work nonstandard schedules, removing a barrier to entry and retention for working parents. I’m proud to support this bipartisan initiative to equip our officers with the tools they need to keep our communities safe.”
The Invest to Protect Act:
Establishes a grant program through the Department of Justice to fund training for de-escalation, domestic violence, and officer safety for local police departments in municipalities with less than 200 police officers. It also provides grants for mental health services, treatments, and therapy for police officers of those small communities.
“Police departments in smaller communities often struggle with having enough funding to recruit, train, and provide resources for their officers – leading to increased stress on our existing force and putting the safety of our communities at risk. This concerning trend has had a disproportional effect on small, rural law enforcement agencies like many of those in the Central Valley. We must increase our investment in public safety and make sure our existing law enforcement officers know they have our support. I’m proud to join my colleagues in re-introducing the Invest to Protect Act to provide officers with the resources they need to keep themselves and our community safe.”
The Social Security Fairness Act:
Repeals two provisions of the Social Security Act that unfairly reduce or eliminate Social Security benefits for millions of Americans who have devoted much of their careers to public service — including police officers, firefighters, federal employees, and educators.
