The Supreme Court Ruling on Janus v. AFSCME

Today, the United States Supreme Court issued its decision in the Janus matter, reversing a 41-year-old precedent, and ruled that the First Amendment prohibits public employee unions from collecting from non-members an “agency” or “fair share” fee. The Janus Decision raises several questions, not the least of which is why remaining a member of PORAC is important. The myriad of important benefits of PORAC membership are only available to those individuals who maintain their membership in a PORAC-affiliated member association.

Specifically, LDF coverage is not available to those individuals who choose to discontinue their membership in their local member association. Today’s Supreme Court decision does nothing to change this well-established principle of PORAC /LDF membership, as set forth in our governing documents.

This is the dawn of the war against both labor unions and the law enforcement profession in this country, and no association should choose to stand alone. A united voice is more important now than ever before.

Thank you for your membership in PORAC.
