Humane Officers with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA), Southern California’s oldest and largest independent animal welfare organization, have been making the case against animal cruelty and neglect since 1877.

Authorized through California Corporations Code § 14502, state-sworn Humane Officers with spcaLA are endowed with full peace officer powers while investigating animal cruelty cases and prosecuting individuals or organizations who neglect or abuse animals. In addition, as members of spcaLA’s Disaster Animal Response Team (DART) ™, Humane Officers can deploy to disasters anywhere in the country where rescue efforts are needed for animals in peril.

spcaLA is hiring Humane Officers and seeks highly motivated candidates across the law enforcement spectrum: from academy graduates to laterals to veteran and/or retired officers. All applicants must have successfully completed a basic police academy certified by the Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training (POST), but the certification need not be current.

spcaLA offers an excellent benefits package:
• Paid vacation, sick leave and holidays
• Choice of HMO and POS health plans; dental and vision also offered
• Life and Long-Term Disability insurance with premiums paid by employer
• 401(k) Plan with matching contribution
