2018 Annual PORAC Training Symposium

The official hashtag for the 2018 Symposium – Palm Springs was #PORACImpact2018, and with the highest attendance in the event’s history, this year’s Symposium certainly lived up to that description. Those who gathered at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Golf Resort in Palm Springs April 10 and 11 had the opportunity to meet with fellow members and PORAC legal and legislative advisors while learning about the latest issues facing law enforcement in California and across the nation.

Presentation topics included the Janus v. AFSCME Supreme Court case, pension threats, political updates, Fair Labor Standards Act protections, body cameras, federal oversight, workers’ compensation and board member training. For additional professional development, PORAC also sponsored an evening networking reception and raffle, where attendees enjoyed cocktails and appetizers while reconnecting with familiar friends and getting to know new ones. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped to make the Symposium a success!

Symposium attendees who snapped a photo in front of the PORAC step & repeat banner at the networking reception and shared it on social media were entered into a drawing for a $50 Starbucks gift card. Here’s the winning shot of Los Angeles School Police Management Association Director Joe Ivankay, Treasurer George Sandoval, President P.J. Webb, Vice President Dave Mackie and Secretary Rob Taylor.
