Authorities expect 2,000 to 3,000 people to attend Thursday's
funeral of
Sacramento County Sheriff's Detective Vu Nguyen.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral
of the Blessed
Sacrament, 1017 11th St.
Members of the public can view the service through a live
video feed at the
Sacramento Convention Center at 1400 J St., sheriff's
spokesman Sgt. Tim
Curran said.
A large funeral procession will travel through town - south
on 12th Street
to L Street, then west on L to Ninth Street. The procession
continues south
on Ninth Street, east on N Street to Folsom Boulevard and
along Folsom to
43rd Street, the entrance of East Lawn Memorial Park.
There, family members will attend a private burial.
Officials said the procession may last two hours and is
expected to cause
daylong traffic delays.
City police ask for the public's cooperation, with motorists
going westbound
through the city to take I Street, and those going eastbound
to use P
Street.
Parking is prohibited around the cathedral, the Capitol and
the Convention
Center. J Street will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.,
and N Street and
Folsom Boulevard will have delays from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Nguyen, a seven-year veteran of the department, was shot
Wednesday afternoon
while on duty in south Sacramento. Jimmy Siackasorn, 16, has
been charged
with murder and will be tried as an adult.
Sheriff's officials have set up a trust fund for the family
of Detective
Nguyen, who was married earlier this year.
