Under general direction, the Manager of Security Programs plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Protective Services Department, and manages other programs as assigned. This classification is responsible for managing overall security services and fare compliance activities for VTA. Security services and fare compliance activities include facilities and operations security, enforcement of VTA rules and regulations, revenue collection and counting, and management of security and law enforcement contracts. The incumbent supervises professional and support staff in support of these activities. This classification also manages VTA’s non-revenue vehicle fleet.

Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree, and extensive, increasingly responsible experience managing a comprehensive security and/or law enforcement program for a large organization. Experience in a large public transportation organization is preferred. Possession of a basic California Peace Officer Standards and Training certificate (or equivalent) is desirable. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required.
